We are part of the environment - Let's Engage

The natural world has never been in greater demand. We need its energy, its rocks, oxygen from trees and anything, but anything that will mop up a little carbon dioxide. And yet, nature has almost ceased to be part of our day to day lives. Certainly in the west, and certainly among people who worry make the decisions.

We live in cities, and take the underground to work . A friend who recently visited Toronto told me that you can live your life between apartment and work without ever having to step outside. This dislocation, this separation of nature from the experience of many people is deeply harmful to our attitudes towards the natural environment.

This web site is part blog, part scrap book. It attempts to discuss the way we use the amazing resources that the planet and our ingenuity have put at our disposal. It also charts some of my personal experience of places, the wildlife I encounter and the people I meet there. I may work in a city, investigating our use of natural resources. But I also visit the wild places close to my home in Scotland. This is a place for photos, for thoughts and for discussions so feel free to leave a comment.

Snowed In

Sitting two meters below the surface of a snow bank in a roughly hewn cave, it is impossible to tell what conditions are like on the surface. Today it is calm and clear, but other times I have been sat in a snowhole whilst snow attempts to fall throu
